S*C*O*P*E*

Scope is an international exchange program that brings together over 800 Canadian and American Scouts and adults for an extended weekend of fun and friendship. The program has its beginning in 1967 with Canada's Centennial celebrations and has continued every four years since.

Canadians would visit the United States in 1967, as part of their celebration of Canada's Centennial Year.

The following year, members of the newly-created Baden-Powell District joined their Canadian hosts for an encampment of 1,750 men and boys at Woodbridge, Ontario, in Boyd Conservation Park.

Scope has continued in this fashion every four years, with the current cycle being 2007/2008

In May 2008 Canadian Scouts and their leaders will travel to Pennsylvania by motor coach. The contingent will arrive Thursday evening and will be billeted with an American Scout and their family. Friday will be spent attending school or doing fun activities with their host families. Friday evening all participants will meet up at Briarwood Camp in campsites that have been set up by the leaders Friday during the day. The weekend will be filled with fun and challenging activities for everyone. Sunday, after camp is over, the youth return with the host's families for more sightseeing and fun. Early Monday morning the Canadian Scouts will rendezvous at the bus departure point for the trip home.

SCOPE is a unique scouting experience which enables our Scouts/Venturers/Rovers to become part of a Pennsylvania family and Scout Troop, attending school and camping with their fellow Scouts/Venturers/Rovers. Each participant becomes a member of an American Scout Troop and family for the weekend. Lasting friendships have developed and all have a most rewarding experience.

SCOPE 2008 will be taking place at Briarwood camp in Bucks County, Pennsylvania May 22-26, 2008

Cost is approximately $240 which includes your food, campsite, transportation by motor coach and activities.

Early in the 2007/2008 Scouting year we will be distributing an “Intent to Participate” Form. This is not a Registration form but strictly informs us of how many Troops will be participating.

Later in 2007 we will be distributing the Registration packages.
